About Mariachi is for Me!

The perfect gift for music and Día de los Muertos enthusiasts of all ages. Children and adults will love this heartwarming “girl-power” story. The illustrator, C. Rod. Unalt, creates a beautiful and vibrant cultural kaleidoscope. Mariachi is for Me! was inspired by Rosa Quirino, the first documented female mariachi, who performed with a male mariachi band at the age of thirteen.

This story is set in a small Huichol village in Nayarit, Mexico. The Rosa in this story dreams of being a mariachi. She longs to play the violin like her papá at Día de los Muertos, but Rosa is told that women weave and only men are mariachis.
